SEN Strategies

Marshfields School offers a range of bespoke strategies and interventions to support the needs of our students identified upon the Education, Health and Care Plans. Strategies are mainly small group interventions with some 1:1 sessions where appropriate.

Cognition and Learning

  • Further Reading and Comprehension – phonics, sight reading and reading for meaning skills.
  • Spelling and Writing.
  • Numeracy.
  • Telling the time and Handling Money.
  • Strategies to develop concentration and focus.

Communication and Interaction

  • Speech and Language programme if under the care of the Speech and Language service.
  • Communication programme.
  • Talking partners.

Social, emotional, Mental Health

 

  • Social Interaction: Social Skills and Turn taking
  • Social Interaction: Friendships and Relationships
  • Social Interaction: Team Work
  • Social Interaction: Positive behaviours
  • Social Stories if appropriate.
  • Nurture Groups: focusing on - organisation, personal hygiene, raising confidence and self- esteem, personal safety and independence.
  • Emotional Literacy sessions – managing feelings and emotions.
  • Independence. Allocated time within the life skills bungalow, comprising of a lounge-diner, fully-fitted kitchen, bedroom with twin beds and bathroom. (Year 11 and Post 16).

Physical and Sensory

  • Developing Fine Motor Skills
  • Handwriting Skills

  • Sensory Circuits
  • Physiotherapy Programme if under the care of the Physiotherapy service.
  • Occupational Therapy Programme if under the care of the Occupational Therapy Service.
