Pathways

Marshfields School offers distinct Pathways to ensure all students have the best opportunities to enhance their developmental progress. Each Pathward offers a broad and balanced curriculum.

Our Pathways are:

  • Enrichment
  • Engagement
  • Enhancement
  • Post 16

Enrichment

The enrichment curriculum is designed to offer a holistic, life skills approach to education. Students will benefit from a designated space for learning. Students on this pathway will not be required to navigate round the school for much of their day. They will have a key teacher for the majority of their timetable. Where required, specialist teachers will come to them.

This creates a familiar safe space for learning. The day follows a set structure allowing for secure routines. They will have enhanced opportunities to engage in sensory activities and access to continuous provision within the classroom. Students on the enrichment pathway will work towards Entry Level and Unit Awards qualifications selected to support them in their next steps and, in the long term, in readiness for adulthood.

Engagement

Students accessing the engagement pathway will have a semi-nomadic curriculum. Their mornings will follow a set routine of core subjects in their form classroom room and moving to a varied offer later in the day with students going to the teachers. Students on the Engagement pathway will eventually be entered into formal examinations in English, Maths and Science, plus a chosen subject for each Key Stage 4 year. The course offered will range from Entry Level to Level 1. These opportunities are designed to create a foundation of knowledge that will prepare them for Post 16 or college.

Enhancement

This pathway is designed for our most able students. It focusses on building the skills required to move on from Marshfields to College, apprenticeships or employment.

The enhancement pathway follows a broad offer of subjects, and at key stage 4 students will get the opportunity to select from options courses that support essential life skills in preparation for adulthood. The enhancement pathway has reduced levels of additional support within the classroom beyond the 1:9 Teacher:Student ratio.

Post 16

Students who remain at Marshfields after Key Stage 4 will be offered a place based on level of need. Priority for Post 16 places is given to Peterborough students who are not yet ready for college and still require significant levels of support. Post 16 offers a four-day academic package of Entry Level courses to prepare students for college, employment and supported or independent living.
